Crafting for Veterans

March 24, 2021 by TR Leave a Comment

One of the nicest things about social media is the ability to connect with others that you wouldn’t otherwise. Perhaps one of my favorite things amongst crafting groups is when I run across card requests for people who can use a little pick-me-up or something for a special birthday.

I absolutely adored both of my grandfathers. One served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands during WWII and the other in the Navy during the Korean War. This generation sacrificed so much for us, I appreciate it and have a huge soft spot for these vets. It is a generation that is passing away quickly. I’m excited to see card requests for vets with 100th birthdays. I’ve had the opportunity to send out quite a few cards for them the last few years as they hit this milestone, thanks to social media.

Today’s featured card is for a gentleman that served in the Army in Italy during WWII driving a bulldozer creating roads for tanks. I used one of my very favorite stamps sets from Kindred Stamps called “Born To Be Brave”. I’ve used this for so many projects! You will see this set featured in a previous blog post too!

The basic ingredients.
1 folded green base to make 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” card, White cardstock cut to 4”x 5 1/4”, smaller pieces cut to size of your image you want to stamp and a piece to layer on.
I used the tank stamp to create a background using a complimentary ink color.
I stamped this cute little guy and then colored using my COPICS, followed by layering on green.
Wrap a red ribbon around cardstock with tanks and tape behind before adhering to your green base. Add small, layered image on top using foam dimensional tape. Stamp a greeting in card and tah-dah!

The finished product.

Here’s a variation using the same stamp. (This was for a 100th birthday too!)
