Bravery In Battle Card Tutorial

March 9, 2021 by TR Leave a Comment

We recently welcomed several new members into our family with a remarriage. One of these special family members is the bride-to-be of our new step-nephew. She is an inspiring, beautiful, young woman who is battling Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I had honestly never heard of this type of cancer before, so I did some online research to learn more. I discovered that March 3rd was TNBC Global Awareness day, so I found it even more fitting to make this post during the month of March.

While I don’t know her whole story, the little I do know, makes me admire her fighting spirit so much. I wanted to make her a card and let her know I was thinking of her while she’s undergoing treatments and hopefully bring her a smile. I hope you will all enjoy the card tutorial and maybe consider learning more for yourself about this cancer or donating to research.

October 16, 2021-Note: Today our family said goodbye to the young woman I wrote about above. Her battle was hard fought and she stayed positive to the end that she would beat this monster. My deepest condolences go to her husband and the rest of our family and friends that loved her so much. May you Rest In Peace Miss Megan.

Hug your loved ones, don’t take them for granted. Every day is a gift.

Bravery in Battle Card Ingredients:

-5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ card-base & envelope
-5″ x 3 3/4″ chipboard
-Kindred Stamps set “Born To Be Brave”
-Liquid Pearls (Pewter & Hydrangea)
-Zig Wink of Stella glitter brush pen
-Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
-Strong double sided adhesive
-The following COPIC markers (mine are sourced from The Merri Artist):
Hair Y00
Skin YR000, E01, E51
Lips R29
Boots E55
Clothing RV20, RV21, RV23
-Uniball Signo White gel pen

For the base, use your chipboard piece. I used a very sticky double sided tape on either end. I pulled all my pink ribbons out of my stash and started at one end, taped tails down, wrapped around front and taped down at other end.
Repeat process, varying the ribbons until you fill the whole board across.
Next weave ribbon through the opposite direction through what you have already taped to your board. Alternate the over and under sequence to create basket weave. I used my bone-folder tool to open things up to more easily pass my ribbon under. Pull out and repeat. You may need tweezers to assist with the last couple weaves.
Run your super sticky tape on the back side and secure all of your ribbon tails as you wrap them over. Then use the same tape to adhere you woven piece to your card base. I used silver card stock with a matching envelope.
Stamp out your image and greeting using a small piece of white card stock. I colored mine using the COPIC markers listed in the ingredients above. I used chisel tip on one of the pink markers just along the edges of the card to give it a little pop of color.
Finally, mount your image on an accent color and then adhere to the ribbon layer. I used that same super sticky tape. I added a few accent dots in the corners using Liquid Pearls, white gel pen to accent her eyes and a little sparkle using Wink of Stella glitter brush pen.
Here are a few other examples of cards I’ve made to encourage other women through illness and military bootcamp. I adore this stamp set from Kindred Stamps!
